Drains may crack and joints open up as a result of ground movement, water infiltration, root ingress or vehicular traffic. The only solution in the past has been to locate the defective area and repair the pipe after excavating to expose the drain. If a drain meets a certain criteria, using high tech equipment, a repair can be carried out without excavation. This is known as a structural lining repair.

How High Pressure Jetting works.

A hose is introduced into the pipe and fires powerful water jets at up to 5000 psi. A nozzle at the end of the hose converts the water into laser cutting jets which strip deposits from pipe walls, flush out waste and restore full flow.

Drain Tracing

We can carry out location and direction of drainage runs and depths using our sonar electronic tracking equipment. This can save a great deal of time and money by locating exactly where to dig.

Colour Camera Surveys with written reports and recommendations

Roman Rod uses a colour mini camcoiler drain and pipe TV Inspection system for surveying pipe diameters, from 50mm through to 150mm.

Features include, a high resolution LCD TFT technology screen, built in VCR, portable text generator keyboard with auto on-screen meterage readout, and a camera / lighting control unit. Fifty metres of push rod is fitted with a 45mm high resolution TV camera head.

Structural Lining Repairs

Where a damaged area is extensive the defective pipe can either be replaced using excavation, or repaired using advanced soft lining techniques. The liner is impregnated with a polyester resin and then inserted into the drain. Once in place, the liner is inverted using water or air pressure and left to cure. The type of resin being used and the ambient temperature at the time of installation will directly influence the curing time. In the majority of cases, liners can be installed and cured on the same day.

Undertaking excavation is always the last option at Roman Rod, as we attempt to reduce disruption to our customers as much as possible by means of “no dig” repair solutions, but occasionally it is unavoidable.
